Car Review: Renault Clio

One of the best things about my job is that I occasionally get to drive some new car demos and this week I had the chance to get behind the wheel of the infamous Renault Clio.
Since its launch in 1991, the Renault Clio has become one of the most popular superminis on the market, breaking numerous sales records and winning a host of awards including European Car of the Year. The latest Clio is now its third generation, boasting a fresh new style and more space than ever before.
Exterior Style:
The new Renault Clio has a striking exterior design with sleek lines and the familiar 'Renault face' as seen on the Megane, Scenic and Laguna. The latest model is larger than its predecessor, boasting more boot space and rear passenger leg room than ever before. It is available as a 3 or 5-door model, both identical in dimension. My model was the entry-level Extreme model in Mercury silver which came equipped with 15'' alloy wheels, manual air conditioning, front fog lights, CD/MP3 player with fingertip controls.
On first appearance, I was quite impressed with the design of the Renault Clio. Granted, it isn't the sportiest supermini on the market but it isn't the ugliest either. Back in the day, the Clio used to be a predominantly 'female' car but I think the new exterior design has changed that. The striking Volcano red and Extreme Blue paint colours give the car a distinctively masculine appeal and more men are choosing to invest in a Clio than ever before.
Interior Design:
Inside the Clio Extreme, the interior was pretty basic with the dashboard, gear lever and door trims all in plain black. The seats were kitted out in 'Papeete' cloth upholstery in black and grey and the carpet floor was in plain back with fixings for tailored car mats should you wish to invest in a set. The stereo was the standard CD/MP3 which is fitted in the entry model but was easy to navigate and gave reasonable sound quality. The stereo can be controlled via the steering wheel mounted controls, located just behind the indicator. The seats were comfortable and easy to adjust.
Overall, I found the interior of the Clio comfortable and practical. Most of the driver features are within fingertip reach including the handy trip computer which displayed the fuel consumption, fuel tank figures and service information. I was a little disappointed that in today's age, Renault haven't fitted a MP3/Aux input as standard on the vehicle - why not? Other than this, the Clio gave a comfortable ride for both driver and passengers.
Power & Performance:
Behind the wheel, the Clio offers a smooth and comfortable ride with impressive fuel economy. The steering was light and responsive and the handling was sharp. The 1.2 16V petrol engine I was driving offers 75 bhp and CO2 emissions of 139 g/km. Fuel consumption is at a reasonable 47.9mph.
I found the Renault Clio a nice car to drive. It was quick to pull off at traffic lights and was more than suitable for city driving. I will admit that I found the engine a little noisy when reaching higher speeds (i.e. on the motorway) but I'm assuming that a bigger engine would help resolve this issue.
Overall the Renault Clio is a nippy, compact car ideal for city living. On the road prices for the entry-level model start from £11,040.

Renault Fluence Price and Specifications Car Review

Exterior: The outside is really eye-catching with a totally different design on the front. The grill, chrome and headlamps are really well placed. The boot is really strong with lots of space. The sleek line along the entire stretch of the body gives a sporty aero look. The ground clearance is about 17cms which should surely put some doubts to rest regarding its compatibility with Indian roads.
Interior: It's a nice and refreshes feeling once you are inside. There is good leg space and room. It also has adjustable seats, semi fold-able back seats. The entertainment is given by the USB and Bluetooth connectivity with an MP3 player. Rear blinds, rain senor wipers, light sensor headlamps, neatly positioned spaces for cups and other things, surely one can forget home. The AC is really cool with vents on the rear too and with the option of dual climate control one can be in their own elements irrespective of the outside weather. On the tech side, the Renault Fluence also comes with the option of key-less entry using a smart card and on/off button. Even the boot can accessed using a remote card.
Engine performance, fuel economy and gearbox: Although the automatic gearshifts allow for a smooth ride, there is a bit of noise as the ratios are a bit delayed during the shifting of gears. The company proclaims about a good fuel mileage but fails to live up to a good torque, especially when you want to speed up during overtake. This delay again is largely due to the preset ratios in the CVT engine. The gear box though is smooth as knife passing through butter.
Ride Handling and Safety: The driver will surely have a smooth handling and ride experience. The suspensions are not creaky and are really springy and smooth. The low quality roads and bumpy jumps should be a thing of the past with this baby and even the cabin is exempted from the jumping experience.
Overall this is a nice and neatly done car. The driver will be in for easy handling, really soothing interiors and a great technology to give a great driving experience. Surely one can't just ignore the Fluence. All said and done, it does lack on the power front a bit calling for a manual model which should allow people to take off fast who don't spending some extra fuel.
Renault Fluence is launched in two variants- 2.0L petrol and another 1.4L diesel. The Renault Fluence price in India is Rs14.40 lakh for the 2.0 L petrol CVT Automatic version while the 1.5 L diesel is priced at Rs12.99 lakh ex-showroom in Delhi.
The luxury sedan car from Renault, Fluence might be launched in India with trademark body colors; however there has been no official confirmation regarding the shades.
Unmatched features with advanced options. Good room space and a decent mileage figure to go with it, the Fluence has all the ingredients of becoming the next big thing. Stay tuned for more updates on colors and other specifications.

Nissan-Renault Cars Focuses on Cost Cutting

Nissan has come a long way since its financial and sales troubles in the late 1990s. Part of the company’s resurgence was attributed to the addition of Carlos Ghosn as Nissan’s CEO. Unfortunately, times are again tough for Nissan, as they are with every automaker. Just recently Nissan announced its first loss since Ghosn took over in 1999. As a result, Nissan plans to save money by becoming even closer to Renault.

A closer relationship between Nissan and Renault could provide plenty of cost-effective options predictsWarwick Nissan dealers. The move could result in the sharing of additional engines and platforms, in addition to the halting of other new platforms that are currently under development at Nissan. According to Reuters, engine sharing alone between Nissan and Renault could produce additional earnings of up to $675 million, which Nissan dealers Alexandria says that not only could this make Nissan more financially sound, but it could also result in more reliable and unique models.

In other financial news, Nissan has been associated as a possible buyer for the Saturn brand. In addition, it is not yet known how these cost cutting initiatives will impact other infinitives underway at Nissan, including its electric vehicle development, whichFramingham Nissan dealers hope will remain a high priority.

Nissan already has one new product in development that has been a joint venture with Renault. The car will be a low-cost subcompact that will be similar to that of the Nano from Tata Motors. Nissan will also be expanding its efforts in the Russian market. Aside from Renault, Used Car Dealers New Haven reminds us that Nissan has formed an alliance with ChryslerFind Article, however those efforts may become complicated due to bankruptcy restructuring.
