Hyundai Accent Car Review

The 2013 Hyundai Accent has plenty of standard features, some of the highest fuel economy ratings in the class and impressive interior space for its size. Critics say it isn’t speedy, but most don’t seem to mind.  The 2013 Hyundai Accent ranks 19 out of 41 Affordable Small Cars. This ranking is based on our analysis of 51 published reviews and test drives of the Hyundai Accent, and our analysis of reliability and safety data.

The Hyundai Accent received an extensive overhaul for the 2012 model year, and reviewers were very satisfied with the results. They said the new Accent is nothing like the previous generation. Its exterior is stylish; its list of safety and technology features is long; and its fuel economy ratings are high. For the 2013 model year, the Accent receives some more changes. Air conditioning, a stereo, satellite radio and a USB port are now standard on the base Accent.

Reviewers think the Accent gives its competitors a run for their money because it’s a great value. It has outstanding fuel economy ratings, a lot more standard interior features than it used to and a quiet cabin that’s pretty spacious for its size. After spending some time driving the Accent, car reviewers aren’t wowed by its performance. It’s not especially fun to drive, they say, but its quiet engine and adequate power make it a capable companion for driving around town or hitting the highway. Auto critics agree that the Accent is about as practical as it gets in this class.

Other Cars to Consider

If you want a more agile small car, test drive the Mazda2. Many reviewers think its precise and responsive steering make it one of the best handlers in the class. In exchange for better performance, you will have to make a few compromises. The Mazda2 doesn’t have as much cargo space or as many interior features as the Accent. The Mazda2 does, however, have good interior space for its size, and its uncluttered dashboard is easy to use.

Available as a sedan or hatchback, the Chevrolet Sonic is one of the Accent’s main competitors. The Sonic trumps the Accent with better performance and standard knee airbags for the driver and front passenger. Both sedan and hatchback versions of the Sonic have comparable amounts of cargo space, but the base Accent has a standard USB port and satellite radio, while the Sonic doesn’t.
